(Morganton, NC) – Atlanta Public Schools (APS) selected Bridgeway Solutions (Bridgeway) as the vendor for ScholarChip’s visitor management solution. The project includes installation of visitor management kiosks, integration with the district’s student information system (SIS), integration for student pickup and user training. The project includes 100 locations and is scheduled for completion at the beginning of the 2019/2020 school year.
“When we received the RFI last summer, we knew ScholarChip could be a great option for Atlanta schools. In October when the final RFP was released, we were delighted to see how well Visitor Manager fit the specific needs and parameters of the project,” said David Lee, VP and General Manager.
“We were honored to provide a bit of badging and tracking assistance to Atlanta Fulton County Emergency Management for the Super Bowl and have several projects underway in the Atlanta / Fulton County area but having Atlanta Public Schools trust us with their visitor management is a major benchmark for us in the K-12 market,” Lee continued.
Unique to ScholarChip’s visitor management system is their sex offender database. Realizing there was no comprehensive, centralized database, ScholarChip created their own national-level sex offender listing. ScholarChip’s database includes records from the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Registry, individual state offender databases and third-party service companies and is continuously updated with information gathered from 55 distinct entities.
How it works:
The ScholarChip Visitor Manager solution is a simple process for the visitor. The person presents their state-issued ID to a card reader mounted on the visitor kiosk and Visitor Manager scans the 2-dimensional barcode for basic identification information. The visitor’s information is quickly cross-checked against ScholarChip’s sex offender database and the school’s list of limited access or prohibited individuals.
Cleared visitors have their picture taken using a webcam mounted on the visitor kiosk and are issued a paper pass featuring their current photo. Returning visitors, such as volunteers, are quickly identified and issued a pass.
If a visitor is found on the school’s restricted access list or indicated as a potential sex offender, a silent alert is sent to the school’s SRO or a designated administrator. This allows specially-trained individuals to respond and handle the situation according to school protocol.
ScholarChip’s Visitor Manager also provides APS with Student Pick-Up. Through integration with the SIS, schools will have alerts displayed at the kiosk for early dismissal permission, pick-up restrictions and information associated with a student being authorized to leave campus and with whom.
The system provides a wide range of reports via the Management Site. Administrators can search for information for specific dates or date ranges, see visitors by reason for visit, pull reports on students leaving school early, see visitors by time entering or leaving and by what exit, and review any attempted visits by prohibited individuals or sex offenders.
Jackie Cornman, Sr. Project Manager for ScholarChip, will be responsible for the systems installation and client sign-off. Marcia Rhodes, ScholarChip Project Manager for ARMET Group, will assist Bridgeway with project implementation and training.
