Direct-to-card printers, the most common in use today, use dye-sublimation ribbons to print the card design. As the printhead transfers the design to the cards it leaves an image of the card, similar to a photo negative, that is easily read and easily reproduced.
Names, account numbers, logos and other information is clearly visible on the spent printer ribbon. Without proper disposal, these used ribbons present an opportunity for identity theft and the production of counterfeit cards. The SMART-BIT® destroys all information retained on used plastic card printer ribbons. Click for spec sheet. Unlike standard paper shredders, the SMART-BIT printer ribbon shredder pulls and twists the used ribbon into the mechanism and reduces it to a pile of colorful bits (~2mm). Nothing is left of personal or private information so there's much less opportunity for personal and professional data to be compromised. |
